We were lucky enough to travel to Maui, Hawaii with The Jazz 100 Club this past February!
We stayed at the most beautiful resort, The Grand Wailea. The movie 'Just Go With It' starring Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston was filmed there.
We went having no expectations, but definitely wanted to have som fun!
Nick's mom, Vickie, was so kind to watch Ave while we were gone for 5 days! (Thank You! Thank You!)
The first day we sat on the beach and watched all of these paddle boarders out in the sea. We wanted to try so we signed up for a 4 day pass that included snorkeling, paddle boarding and kayaking.
OMG, it was AMAZING!
On the 3rd day while paddle boarding, we were about a mile off shore when we could hear a whale singing underneath the water. Within a few seconds, she breached about 200 yards away from us and spouted. It was beautiful!
I am SO afraid of the ocean due to sharks, jelly fish....well the UNKNOWN. (Probably from my experience growing up at the Galveston beaches in Texas!) But this mammal intrigued me. I wanted to get closer to her. Nick warned me that it was danderous, so I backed off.
Afterwards, we were walking towards the pool bar, when all of a sudden I FELL DOWN the stairs in front of everyone. It was so embarrassing, and I got banged up pretty badly. The security was called to bandage me up and everything. My leg swelled up and bruised within two minutes. (I still have scars!)
Security asked if I had been drinking. I said "No" and they replied "Well, you deserve a few drinks now. This is gonna hurt!" Son of A! The bar bought me an awesome drink to try and help my ego.
We decided that afternoon we wanted to take advantage of all that Maui had to offer.
That night we headed into Lahaina to eat at Jimmy Buffet's Cheeseburger in Paradise. It was fun. We were able to walk to the infamous Banyan Tree. It was amazing. Nick of course had to act like a monkey and swing from its branches!
The next day we went on a Helicopter Tour of Maui, Lahaina and the Molokai. If you are not familiar, Molokai was where people of Hawaii were sent if they had leprosy. It was basically a prison that was impossible to escape. (Would you try to jump off a 200 foot cliff?) You can read more about it here.
It was whale watching season while we were out in Hawaii and on our helicopter ride alone, we saw over 100 whales! (If you look closely at some of my pics, you'll see them spouting and swimming!)
The views were absolutely breath taking! I was so nervous to go because if we were to crash, Avery would be an orphan. (I know, I know. Very drastic and dramatic. But hey, I'm a mom and think like a mom.) I am SO glad we went!!!

We bought a cheap waterproof camera from the hotel and I still haven't developed them. Doh!
We took advantage of a snorkeling trip to Molokini. I
We took a catamaran to the Molokini island about 35 minutes away. We rented a digital waterproof camera and hired one of their videographers too. The water was pretty chilly, but the animals below were awesome! People said they could hear the whales singing under water, I couldn't. I was concentrating too much on my breathing. (I didn't want to hyperventilate or suck in sea water!)
If you haven't tried snorkeling, please do. There is something calming and peaceful about it!
The rest of the trip was spent at the beach and the pool. We did absolutely no shopping. Shocking!
We ate at a really neat restaurant called the Humuhumunukunukuapua'a. I DARE you to try and say it! It was so good! Nick had a $100 3 pound lobster that he named Fred. Apparently Fred was really good. (I can't eat things I name!)
We made awesome memories and new awesome friends! We can't wait to go again. Hawaii is my favorite destination places to go! We missed Avery SO SO SO much and want to taker her there one day. But, I'm not going to lie, Nick and I had an amazing, fun and romantic trip!
