Trying to play catch up! SUPER LONG BEWARE!

Wow! Time flies and so have we. Next thing you know, we are married, tomorrow Avery will ask for the keys to the car. Time to play catch up!

Since the last post, Nick and I finally got hitched in the beautiful state of Cali-Forn-Eye-Aye! Not much happened from the time of the last post to the time we got married, so we will just talk about the weddin'!

We left good ole Salt Lake City early Thursday morning. Grandpa Dale just purchased a new Challenger 604 (technical, I know) that was BEAUTIFUL! We were lucky enough to fly on its maiden voyage! We were able to have 11 people fly down with us. Our great friends Erika, Sean and their daughter Coraline joined us as well. Avery was pretty fussy on the way down. Lucky for us, we had enough room to lay a blanket down and just let her roll on the floor. Plus, we had many aunties, cousins and grandma and grandpa to occupy her time.

When we got to the tarmac in San Diego, it was SOOOO humid! Which immediately made me feel sticky. But, the smell of the salty air is something I cherish! We had enough luggage come out of the plane that it looked like we needed our own luggage round-a-bout for everyone to claim their own bags. We were able to fit ALL of it into 2 vehicles. It was pretty amazing how strategically placed everything was.

When we got to the condo, we got situated and unpacked. Sean and Erika and Coraline stayed with us. We headed out to Tartine (a favorite local bakery), headed to the grocery store, fed the girls, made the wedding centerpieces, went on a walk to The Del Coronado, then came back and got ready for a cocktail party Dale and Sheri threw in honor of Nick and I. It was awesome! Their condo overlooks the entire ocean. We had the most amazing sunset to watch and even got some pictures of. After the amazing cocktails, we walked to another of our favorite restaurants, Tomaso's. This place knows the Holt's by name. Even ALL the grandchildren. Nick and I went on a date there in July and the waiter, Walter, remembered we were getting married after two months. Great memory! It was fun to sit, relax, and tell some funny stories! Nick was even referred to as a china man. Next time you see him, ask why!

On Friday, we were pretty busy with some last minute preparations. We were able to go to our favorite breakfast spot, Villa Nueva. Afterwards, Nick, Avery and I drove into downtown San Diego to apply for our marriage license. This was an interesting venture! We saw a woman who had to be at least 60 (cougar) marrying a 19 year old Jamaican man who did not speak a word of English. I am trying not to judge, and hopefully it was true love....but we think she may have been a woman who helped get men green cards into the US as a profession. Just sayin'! We definitely felt like the minority at that time. We had to rush back to the island because I had a hair appointment to get to. Very Important! ;-) I had a trial up-do to practice for the BIG day. All went well and we were done within 30 minutes. What a relief. (Until the BIG day!) When I got back we headed to the Burger Lounge for a bite to eat. The island was SOOO hot this day. Avery was chillin' in just her diaper. I was that mom! I always rolled my eyes at the mom's who let their child run around in just a diaper. Now that I am a mom, you do what you have to do to keep your child cool, calm and collected. I felt so bad for her and kept her cool by pouring ice cold water on her head. Coronado is never this hot, so we were a little anxious to see what our wedding day would have in store.

That night, we had our "rehearsal" dinner at Miguel's. The food and company were awesome. My friends Emily, her daughter Grace and Melissa drove all the way from Vegas to join us! Thank you girls!!! It meant alot to have you guys there. It was a late night, but it was so much fun!! Avery slept threw most of dinner both nights, but once we got home, she thought it was playtime and would stay up until almost midnight. Naughty naughty!

The big day had finally arrived!!! Nick only had a few hours left before he could throw on his running shoes and take off. Luckily, he didn't. Thank you honey! Nick and I had made the decision we wanted to spend that day together as a family and get ready together as a family. It was the best decision! We went to breakfast again at Villa Neuva. We met my mom, Smash and Lindsay at Villa Nueva. It was deelish! Ave had been soooo super backed up, so the pediatrician told me to do some laxatives for her. Poor baby girl! BUT...it worked wonders!

After breakie, I went to get my hair did. Since the day before went so smoothly, I wasn't nervous. Hhhmmmm. It took almost an hour and twenty minutes and did not look anything like the day prior! Bummer. I made the poor stylist do it over twice. I finally was running out of time and said whatever and kept it. Besides my hair, and the dress (A WHOLE OTHER POST IN ITSELF!), everything went perfectly. Nick and I checked into The Del Coronado in one of the beach villages. The room was so nice! We got ready with our baby monkey and walked hand in hand to meet everyone at the bar at The Del. Avery was playing with some bushes while we were waiting for Nick, and broke out in a huge rash on her face, 20 minutes before pictures. Damn! We had a glass of wine and met with our officiant for pictures before the ceremony. I can't wait to see those! The weather was perfect. It had cooled down and had a cool breeze.

FINALLY, we were ready to make our union legit!!! We walked down the beach together with our closest family and friends to the most beautiful spot on the beach. Avery was exhausted by this point and slept the whole time on Grandma T's shoulder. What a blessing! Our officiant, Curtis did wonderfully. The waves were bigger than we had ever seen and were crashing onto the beach right in front of us. It was beautiful, breath taking and a little distracting. (Since we wrote our vows, we were both in awe at the waves and kept saying wow!) We sealed our vows with a kiss and were so elated that we finally had done it! We took some more pictures and headed back to the bar for a celebratory cocktail.

Afterwards, we had a limo come charter our party to our dinner reception at Il Forniao. This place is beautiful! It is on the other side of the island and looks across the bay to downtown San Diego. Besides the view being breath taking, the food is awesome! The night was perfect! Pictures will tell the story for us! Aver's spent the night at Grandpa Dale and Grandma Sheri's. (Thank you Thank you!!!)

On Sunday, Nick and I had breakfast for the first time as hubby and wifey. It felt so good and natural. We were so excited to pick up Ave, who was a very naughty girl for grandma. She wanted her mommy! We spent the day relaxing, packing and enjoying the beautiful weather. We went to lunch with the Lee's and decided to take the girls down to the beach. They were able to play in the ocean for the first time. It was cute. Except for the fact that I had a panic attack when the waves would come near Ave. Sorry babe! Ever since her stroller accident, I am a freak and am scared of just about anything. We stayed on the island that night and ate at a local pizzeria, had beer and watched some football. Nice way to end a nice trip.

The next morning we were off to Salty. Ave slept almost the whole way. Thank you!

It was such a fun trip. Thank you to our family and friends who made it out there. It meant so much to have your support. We are so lucky to have such wonderful people in our lives!!! We love you all!

***Since there are ALOT of wedding pic's, I'll post a "picture post" of just those. Stay tuned!***

Brittany and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day!

Yesterday was one of the most trying days for me. I experienced something I never want to experience again.

It all started when Avery and I were leaving the house for our usual morning walk. I strapped Ave in her BOB stroller and headed out the front door. I had just gotten out of the door and turned my back for 1 second to lock the door behind me. I heard a horrible gut wrenching noise, the stroller was going full speed down our concrete stairs with Avery in it. It seemed to be going in slow motion. I couldn't move fast enough. Avery was screaming, I was screaming. I fell down the stairs trying to catch my baby girl. But I couldn't in time. She had reached the bottom and the stroller flipped over. Her head hit the concrete. I couldn't save her in time. I pulled that damn stroller over as fast as I could and only imagined the worst scenario. I was bawling and was scared to see what was under the BOB. Luckily, Avery was strapped in tight and we attached an infant carrier attachment to the front of the stroller, so it took the brunt of the hit. But Avery's poor fragile head still bumped the cement. She had a big purple welt forming on her head and was screaming in pure fright. I was frantically trying to reach Nick at work. I couldn't. I had to call his headquarters to transfer me to a different line in the office. His employee answered the phone. I told him to grab Nick. He said his office door was shut. I told him I didn't care. He said he was on an important conference call. I told him I didn't care. I was not nice. (I am sorry Casey, I was freaking out!) I talked to Nick. We weren't sure if I should go to the ER. I ran to the neighbors house, no one was home. I called my mom, sisters, everyone my finger could dial. No one was answering. I felt so alone. By this time Avery had calmed down and was playing with my hair and shirt. I decided to keep an eye on her. My mom finally called back and came right over. Ave's pupils were responding fine and she was acting normal. Thank God!! In hind sight, I maybe should have rushed to the hospital....but I was scared. I didn't want anyone to think I was a horrible mom who couldn't protect her child. Much worse things could have happened to Avery. If she would have fallen even one inch to her right, this could have been a much different story. We are so lucky. She must have a guardian angel watching ovber her!!

The rest of the day seems menial, but I will continue.

That night, Nick and I were supposed to go to the Dave Matthews Concert. This is my ALL TIME FAVORITE band. He cancelled that morning. This was the 2nd year in a row for a cancellation. Huge Bummer!!! It is supposed to be re-scheduled. My fingers are double and tripled crossed for this.

I layed Avery down for a nap and decided to start to clean the house. I plugged my I Phone in to charge as I was doing this. Well, since the concert was cancelled I was trying to call Nick's mom to let her know we did not need a babysitter. As I grabbed my phone, it slipped and fell right into the bucket of hot Pine Sol water. I plucked it out very quickly, dried it with a rag and put it in a bowl of rice. Nothing. It was dead!

I went in the basement to use our house phone, and it was not working. (May not seem like much, but the phone is connected to the alarm. No phone=no alarm=no bueno!) Ugh!

Nick was not going to make the trek down to SLC since our concert was cancelled, but decided by this point, I needed him home. Badly! We were only able to communicate through email Something not so convenient, considering you have to sit by the computer all day!

Nick had actually sent me a surprise right after the news of the concert being cancelled, flowers and chocolate. He couldn't have predicted a better time for the delivery. It came after all the incidents of the day had occurred. Thank you Nick!

Nick, thank you for being my saving grace last night. I about lost it completely. Without you, I wouldn't have made it through the day. Thank you for fighting two hours of traffic after a long day of work, dealing with getting me a new phone, sending me flowers and chocolate (which I almost completely ate!!) and just holding me saying I was doing a good job. I felt like a failure yesterday. You made me feel better. I don't know where I would be with out you. I love you so much!!

I am sorry this is such a long post, and I probably shouldn't have shared all the details. (DCFS, I swear I am doing my best and am a good mom!), but I figured this may happen to someone else out there. Please use your breaks on you strollers! Something so simple is over looked so often!

I love you Avery! You and your daddy are the most important things in life to me!

Dear Aver's

Dear Aver's,

Today you are 5 months old!! I cannot believe how fast time is flying by. I have to admit, I hate how fast it is going, but I LOVE this age with you! You are SOOOO much fun. You not only keep your poppa and I entertained, you keep the puppers entertained and you even have started to entertain yourself. Here are some of the milestones you have conquered in the last month:

- You have started solids!!! Mommy begged Dr. Bell because you were getting up 3-4 times a night to eat. You are growing SO fast & I couldn't keep up with your appetite. Plus, you absolutely refuse drinking formula (Grandpa Dale has given it the name Rodney Strong, a cheap wine. He calls your momma's milk Silver Oak, which is a really expensive wine.), which has made things difficult. We had to strategically plan each day. Now that you are on solids, we have maintained your appetite much better and are on a great schedule!

-You started off with banana's. You ARE NOT a fan of them!! You would make the silliest faces and would gag just like Jim Carey in Ace Ventura. It was priceless! I am sorry your poppa and I would laugh everytime you did this. It was too cute not to. You now are eating pears. You love them!! You have them in the afternoon and at night. If I let you, you would polish off a tub of it with no problem! Tomorrow we start peaches. Yummy!

-At first you hated rice cereal. I had to entice you by mixing in applesauce. I slowly weaned you off of that concoction and now you love it with milk! You get so mad when there isn't any more left.

-You are now sleeping 8-10 hours a night. Big WOO HOO!!!!!!! There are some nights that you still get up and want to eat, but they are becoming few and far in between. Mommy owes you a big thank you for this!!! I was getting sooooooo tired and run down. I think you were too.

-You LOVE LOVE LOVE nap time! You take a 10 minute cat nap at day care, then a 2 hour nap in the afternoon. Sometimes you even take a 2-1/2 hour nap! You still love a little catnap around 5PM too.

-Your poppa and I get to wake up listening to you coo in the morning through your monitor. Lately, you wake us up by blowing bubbles. It is an awesome way of waking up!!

-You are rolling around EVERYWHERE! You want to be mobile so bad....and now you have figured that you can get to your toys across the room by doing this! It is soooo cute but has made your parents realize that we are not prepared for you to be crawling soon, which will be any day now. We need to get the house prepared NOW!

-You love sitting in your Bumbo chair and playing with your favorite toys, measuring spoons!

-You finished your first 5k with your mommy and Aunt Smash! You did great! You slept the whole time in the jogger, BOB. People were amazed that we were running with a baby who was snoozing the whole time. :)

-You are now in 6 months clothes. Well, mostly. You do wear onesies and pj's in size 9 month. They are a little big, but you will have no problem filling them in soon!

-You still hate shoes. You curl your toesies up until you or I take them off. I wish you like shoes. They are so cute on you!

Well, you are now waking up from your afternoon nap. I just wanted to let you know that you are the most beautiful, talented, special little girl on this world. We are so lucky to have you in our lives. It amazes us how fast you are learning new things. You seem to want to explore the world right now!

We love you Princess!

Love,

Mommy and Poppa (and brother Monte and sisser's Grace!)

***I left my camera cord in Salty, so I can't downlaod any pictures right now. Stay tuned for more updates, pictures and stories!!

It's been a BIG week!

Sheesh! It's only Wednesday....but we have had alot going on so far.

On Saturday, we went on an hour and a half walk with our little monkey. It was awesome! We then headed to the Farmer's Market. YES, we are regulars. We are addicted to buying local fresh produce. Plus, it makes for great people watching!!! We bought beets, raspberries, apricots, raw honey, watermelon, green beans (my fave!), and had a delish fruit pie. I love the FM!

Avery fell asleep like this. It was so funny!

After, Nick went on a Harley ride while I went to a baby shower. That night we met up with some family and friends at The Wing Company for some much needed relaxation. It was TOO much fun. ;)

On Sunday, Nick and I re-adopted my old dog Meika! She is back with us for a while. She was going to be sold to a stranger, so we bought her back and now are adopting her out to a friend of ours. We have a friend named Leroy who rescues bulldogs. Well, his two bullies just passed away and is heart broken. We know he will take REALLY good care of Meika Jayne. He owns a barber shop in downtown Salt Lake City and will be a great owner. I will be heartbroken once we adopt her out. But atleast I know where she is going and I can go visit her whenever I would like.

Our bulldog colony.
(Monte, Meika and Grace.)

Miss Meika Jayne. Her birthday is August 25th. She'll be 5 years old!!

I am staying in Salt Lake City for two weeks to spend some quality time with her and our other two furry children. The town home in Logan would freak if they knew we had another bullie, so I am braving being alone for a bit.

We have had ALOT of fun so far. Meika and Grace are best of friends. In fact, we think they are in love. They won't stop humping each other. I have to spank them to get them to stop. It is disturbing! Monte has been great and just leaves her alone.

"LOVERS!!!"

On Monday, we had Avery's FOUR MONTH check up. We have a four month old? How? When? Where did that time go?

She weighed in at 14 pounds on the dot which put her at 60% and she is 25" long, which puts her at 77%. He said she is also a REALLY advanced baby. I am having a REALLY hard time keeping her full and BEGGED for her to be put on cereal. The doc granted my wish. So now, we are giving her cereal once a day for two weeks....then we will do twice a day for two weeks. Then, we get to start green veggies! It is so weird knowing our baby is now going to be eating BIG GIRL food.

Avery refuses to eat any form of formula. She gets that stubborness from her daddy!!! ;) But, the doc says I need to supplement her bottles with 3/4 breast milk and 1/4 formula. Wish us luck!! (Our pediatrician is such a doll. He forgot to give us samples of formula at the office and came by our house and dropped some off on our front porch! Totally awesome!)

Avery did pretty well with her shots. She was super happy right before. She even rolled in front of her doc to show off. She cried for about 10 minutes after the shots, then took an hour nap. BUT, that night and the next morning she was a fuss monster. Thank goodness for infant tylenol which helps the pain. I was told baby motrin works and lasts longer. I have not tried it quite yet.

Poor Baby Girls was NOT happy!

Then she saw the camera and was fine!

As for her first experience with rice cereal....she ROCKED!!! She almost ate the entire bowl and she seemed to be having fun with it. That night she slept from 9-5:30. AWESOME! But, on Tuesday she did not want any part of it and awoke twice to eat in the middle of the night. Tonight (Wednesday, she ate a little cereal. I'll let you know how she fairs as for sleeping.)

*** On Wednesday, she did not want any part of it. So, on Thursday...I added a little applesauce and she seemed to enjoy it a little more!

First time eating rice cereal!!

Second time eating rice cereal. Yummy!

On Tuesday, we packed our things and headed to Salty. I hate being away from Nick, but this will give me a few extra days to work on the wedding. (Which BTW is less than 6 weeks away. Holy Cow!!)

On Wednesday, I headed out to Ikea and grabbed some items for our home. I was also looking for cheap flower vases for our table decorations. Can I tell you how much I love their frozen yogurt? I secretly may drive out there tomorrow and grab another cone!!! (It's no secret now!) It is DELISH.

I have not been able to go to the gym with everything that has been going on....but am trying to still walk 3 miles a day. Hopefully I will still have the guts to sign up for the 5k which is on the 22nd!! Avery will be my partner since Nick has a golf tourney that day!

Anywho, it now seems like I have not been up to that much...but man, I feel like I have been run over by a semi a few times. I am exhausted!

Until the next post, have a great rest of the week!!

Guess who's 4 months old today!!!!!

Dear Avery Lynn,

YOU are 4 months old today! Where has the time gone? We have been so busy having so much fun as a family. In the four short months you have been here, you have experienced and have accomplished so much.

*You have been on TWO airplanes.
*You have been to California! With two more trips planned by the end of the year.

*You are rolling from your back to your tummy AND from your tummy to your back.

*You are scooting on your tummy across your play mat.

*The other day I put you in your swing and you were trying to escape. You would pull on the side of the swing to try and get out. Thank goodness I had the play tray snapped in. BUT, you were also pulling on the rings on your try to pull your self up and out.

*After the above incident, your daddy and I went and bought you a jumper. You are SO independent. You love your jumper!

*You have become quite the swimmer. You try so hard to quick your legs and blow bubbles. You like to dunk your head in the water and give your mom a heart attack.

*You like getting up ALL the time in the middle of the night. I don't know what has brought this on, but you are making your mommy and daddy SO tired!!

*You are now wearing 3-6 month clothes and some 6 month clothes. (Today you wore a jumper that was 6-9 months!!!) Stop growing so fast munchkin!

*You are so much better in the car. You fall asleep now or watch yourself in the mirror and observe your surroundings.

*You LOVE your stroller. You and I take LONG walks together. We are going to do a 5k together next month. Woo Hoo!!

*You know your name now. When your dad or I say your name, you look right at us. It is so cool!

*You put EVERYTHING in your mouth now. And I mean everything! You eat your clothes, your woobie, mom's hair, dad's ears, all of your toys, and now your toes!

*In the morning I put you in your Bumbo chair while I cook breakfast. Your toy of choice: mom's measuring spoons. You eat them, suck on them and hit the tray and make noise with them!

*You want to eat and drink like a grown up so badly. We like giving you ice water in spoons and you try to eat it. You observe us drinking water and now you try to do it too.

*You are on a daily routine now. You MUST have your morning and afternoon nap or you are very very upset. ;)

*You also go to daycare for one hour a day so mommy can work out. You do so good and usually just take a nap there. Hollie loves you and says you look like a porcelain doll.

*You are now laughing a lot more. It is the cutest laugh ever and gives us the biggest smile when you do it. You love to laugh at Monte and Gracie. They are your bestest friend. While you are in your jumper, you try to pull Monte's ears. He loves to sit near you and follow you wherever you go!

Avery, we are so very proud of you. You are such a sweet, innocent, perfect and beautiful child. We are SO blessed to have you. We are constantly in awe at the things you do. You are developing so quickly. Every time we blink, you are up to something new.

We love you Love Bug!!

Love,

Your Mommy and Daddy

Your buddy Gracie.

Your BEST buddy Monte.

We've been a busy family!

Wow! I have been a blogging slacker lately!! We have SO much going on right now, that when I do have time to sit down and blog....I do not feel like it.

SO.....what exactly have we been up to you might ask????

Well, here we go.....

*We have been swamped with planning the upcoming wedding. We have booked the dinner/reception site, I ordered the invitations, we hired our officiant/photographer/florist (yes, it is ALL one person. Makes it SO much easier!), now we need to get the cake going.

*I bought my dress. I originally wanted a tea length dress, but was having a hard time finding one. I found a long dress that looks like it fits on a beach and I fell in love with it once I tried it on. :)

*We bought Nick a linen suit. He is pretty much the hottest guy around in it!!!

*We have had the car in the shop twice for the same problem. Nothing too big. I got the sweetest Mercedes loaner this last time and secretly want to keep it. :)

*We went to the Farmers Market and bought Ave some cute bows for $2 each. Plus, I had the BEST pesto garden veggie sandwich and strawberry lime rickey around!! Yum!!

*Nick and I both went on the same diet at the same time. (I was reluctant at first...I HATE DIETING! But he has lost a total of 16 pounds and I between 5-7. It fluctuates.) I give myself the weekends to splurge while he is being a strict boy with himself. Note: Chocolate Gelato is only 60 calories a serving, only 5 grams of sugar and 3 grams of fat!! Not too bad in my book. It's almost identical to some yogurts out there. I love that I found this delicacy!

*We took Ave swimming in Grandpa Dale's pool. She LOVED it! (The water is about 80 degrees and feels like a bathtub. She was in the water for an hour before she was ready to get out and take a nap.

*I have let Ave go to daycare at the gym so I can workout when I'm in Logan. So far, she has been doing great. When I am in Salty, I walk 4 miles with her while she is in her stroller. We have fun together!

*Nick has had two record breaking months at work. Good Job babe! We are so proud of you!

*We attended Lincoln's baby blessing. (My step-sister Stacie's baby.) He is such a doll. I didn't take any pic's of the cute guy, but will steal some from someone.

*We've laid on the lawn and stared at the sky to see what Avery sees. It's pretty fun to try and see things from her perspective.

*We've had AWESOME dinners at the Country Club. I eat like it's going out of style and regret it the next day, but still love doing it!!

*Avery has now rolled from her tummy to her back. She throws her arms out when she is done. It's like she is saying "Whoa. What just happened?". She is getting SO big.

*Ave has also started scooting on her tummy. We now need to start keeping a close eye on her. She is growing to be such a little independent lady!

*I noticed this last week that when I am drinking water while I am holding our little monkey, she leans in towards the cup. SO....I put the cup up to her mouth today and she grabbed it and pulled it towards her mouth and connected. She wasn't sure how to swallow and let the water run down her shirt. It was priceless!!

*We have also (well, me) started playing with spoons to see what she does. I like to dip it in ice water to make the spoon cold. Ave likes to try and suck on it. I think she is more than ready for cereal!!

*Nick took a Harley trip with some buddies to Jackson Hole and had a little too much fun.

*I was lucky enough to be invited to Coraline's baptism. (Our friend Sean and Erika's baby.) I have never been to a catholic baptism and thought it was so neat. Coraline is such a beautiful baby. Erika and Sean, you are doing a FABULOUS job.

*I also went to lunch with Em and Grace at the new Beehive Grill in Logan. It is delish!!! I just love that little Gracie. She is such a good and gorgeous baby!

***We have been up to so much, I know I am leaving out a ton!! This Friday we are headed to the Outdoor Retail Convention! We are stoked!!

We hope everyone has a wonderful and safe 24th of July!!!
